About Richard
Richard Jändel is a writer whose work is characterised by reflection, humanity, and a strong belief in literature’s ability to influence the world. Through clear and accessible language, he explores fundamental existential themes — good and evil, truth and deception, human responsibility, and the enduring hope for change.
The dream of becoming a writer has been with him since childhood. A defining moment in his literary journey came when he wrote his academic thesis on the Swedish volunteers of the Spanish Civil War; the individuals who contributed to his research encouraged him to transform the work into a book, marking the beginning of his published authorship. Writing from the quiet of the countryside, he creates stories that foster understanding, challenge perspectives, and leave readers with a lasting sense of compassion, purpose, and possibility.
Inspired by writers such as Erich Maria Remarque, B. Traven, and Amos Oz, Richard believes that literature is far more than words on a page. It is a means of understanding humanity, creating recognition, and reminding us of our shared responsibility towards one another. His greatest ambition is to write the novel capable of changing everything.
His work also includes the Oscar Dillington series — an adventure story for children set in Victorian London, following a young boy who discovers that the mirrors in his world are secret gateways to a realm of wonder, danger, and self-discovery. Warm, imaginative, and richly detailed, the series invites young readers into a world where every child can become exactly who they wish to be.
